JUST ANNOUNCED! The Metallica Drive-In Experience is coming to Cheyenne!
in pretty synchronistic timing, a cardboard box recently showed up at my door filled with things from the very beginning of my career: old photos, backstage passes, letters, photo shoots that never came out, music that never came out, and more ... as i stared at this pile of memories, glossy kodak images of me at 16 - on the road, knee deep in the grind of trying to make a living out of what I loved - i couldn’t help but think of what an insane journey it has been. from the map quest days of driving through the night in my father’s suburban trying to keep up with steel pulse’s tour bus, to standing here today with my latest creation, ‘FIRE ON YOUR HOUSE’, out in the world and in your ears ... what a wild journey it has been.⠀
i wrote FIRE ON YOUR HOUSE a couple of years back, never intending for it to be released. i recorded it as a part of my own healing process for all of the lows i’ve experienced within the music industry. the music industry, like all industries, has a dark side. when you’re an artist trying to “make it”, especially when you’re young, you’re ripe for people taking advantage of you. a lot of the “horror stories” you hear about are true ... i know that because i’ve lived some of them. and while i’ve of course had moments of bitterness and anger, i am, ultimately, grateful for these trials and tribulations because they’ve made me a stronger person and a stronger artist. ⠀
let me be clear ... i am no saint. i too have parts of my house that are burning. in that sense, this song sings to me as well. as we know, newness is created in fire. it is the great destroyer and the great purifier. ⠀
so ... FIRE ON YOUR HOUSE. when i finally shared the song with a few close friends, they all said “you have to release this.” i thought to myself “i can’t,” and gave them all the reasons: it’s not a typical “trevor hall” song, i’m not allowed to show this side of myself, blah blah blah ... but then i thought, i have to be honest about all aspects of myself. i have to speak my truth and share all of my lived experiences, not just the pretty ones ... even if it scares me.⠀
i’ll never forget the moment i recorded the vocals for the song a few months back in the studio in durham. with tears in my eyes and chills in my body, it was one of the most cathartic experiences of my musical journey .... i’m so grateful for FIRE ON YOUR HOUSE, for what it has taught and what it has allowed me. and, i’m so grateful for you all for allowing me to share it, for your support and for your love.⠀
